Jack In A Box

12 July, 2009 at 1:27 pm (Funny Stuff, SuperGay)

This is the first episode of a web series made by Michael Cyril Creighton, a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend (though you may know him from VH1’s Best Week Ever). His day job is working at a theatre box office; these are his (hilarious) stories.

TheSpark.com

3 June, 2009 at 7:43 pm (Funny Stuff, Miscellaneous)

Back at the turn of the century, in the glory days of my youth (i.e. Freshman year at TU), there was a popular website called TheSpark. And no, youngsters reading this, I don’t mean sparknotes. That was an offshoot of TheSpark, not the main attraction. In fact, SparkNotes are what killed TheSpark: Barnes & Noble bought SparkNotes, and along with it the rights to TheSpark and all its contents – and then cut the good stuff out completely (and also effectively killed off Cliffs Notes, it seems).

But I digress.

The reasons we went to TheSpark were twofold. One, for its quizzes (Kristen, I know you remember the Purity Test!). Two, for it’s “scientific” research. In the days pre-blog and pre-reality show, these things were hilarious and different. But that’s all long gone now…OR IS IT?

That’s right, thanks to the wonder of the internets (and about 3 minutes of googling on my part), I’ve found the spark, archived forever on the internet! The quizzes are no good anymore, but the articles are still there – and they are still fantastic. So, the TheSpark, circa 2001, can now be found here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20010331202304/www.thespark.com/
Focus on the “scientific” articles. Good times.

On Why Some Conservatives Should Learn To Use “The Google”

13 April, 2009 at 7:02 pm (2M4M, Civil Rights, Funny Stuff, SuperGay)

Exhibit 1: Teabagging So as you may have heard, some people will be participating in Tax Day Tea Parties on April 15th. Frankly, I’m not exactly sure what they’re protesting (and I’m not the only one who is confused). However, before the actual protests on the 15th, they’re building up to this by sending individual tea bags to The White House…something they’re calling, um, teabagging*.
Rachel Maddow hilariously goes over the whole teabagging debacle…

I love how she can’t stop laughing!

Exhibit 2: 2M4M Remember just a few days ago, I posted that video that the National Organization for Marriage made? The hateful, lie-spreading ad? Well, that same organization decided to start an initiative – the Two Million For Marriage initiative (and let’s be clear: they mean marriage only for straight, seemingly Christian folks who can have their own biological children. But I digress). Anyway, they have this initiative, but they decided to call it by the acronym 2M4M. Uh oh.
See, for a very long time, “M4M” has been personals-ad speak for “man for man”. Therefore, it could be reasonably assumed that 2M4M would be two men looking for a third… and yet, somehow, nobody – nobody! – in the NOM realized that their proud new acronym had a decidedly pro-gay slant (and pro-gay in the most tawdry sort of ways). And regardless of that, nobody in NOM thought to register the 2M4M url!!
Once again, Ms. Maddow:

Talk about your PR faux pas.
Well, luckily, a fast-moving individual registered 2M4M.org, and has set it up to mean Two Men For Marriage. Kudos to Christopher (the guy who started the site). And then Robert got the idea that we should start a facebook group to support the site, and so we did. So, if you’re on facebook, join our group. And don’t forget to check out 2M4M.org!
*If you don’t know what teabagging means, you might want to check out Urban Dictionary…I couldn’t bring myself to define it on here. My grandmother reads these posts, for godsakes!

Improv Everywhere Goes International

10 April, 2009 at 10:17 am (Funny Stuff, Miscellaneous, Music)

This is the happiest (and most fun) video I’ve seen in awhile. As a friend pointed out, it features German, public, impromptu dance numbers set to Julie Andrews music – how can you not love that?!

Now, I can’t be certain, but I know that the Improv Everywhere based here in NYC has inspired lots of groups around the globe. And this video certainly looks like their work.

And, for anyone that thinks all big cities are evil and all small towns are good – this is further proof that’s not true. So they can suck it. 🙂

The Queen and The First Lady

2 April, 2009 at 9:32 pm (Funny Stuff, Historical Figure, Michelle Obama, President Obama, The British Are Coming!)

Okay, so here’s the deal. Anyone that knows me well, or who has known me since my high school days (i.e., 90% of the people taking the time to read this), knows that I am a total anglophile. Before I was obsessed with our current head of state, I was all about Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas Queen, Defender of the Faith. So how do you think I felt when I saw this?
obamasroyals
Well, thrilled, of course! (though who knew Prince Philip was such a tiny man?)
But then…Huggate happened:
michellequeenhug
The hug felt ’round the world.
So for those of you who aren’t all up on Royal Protocol…well, this ain’t it. One does not touch the Queen! But The Queen remarked on how tall Mrs. Obama is, and put her hand on Michelle’s back…the First Lady responded in kind, rubbing the Queen’s back…and, well – the rest is history:
michellequeenhug2
Apparently, the Queen even reportedly asking Michelle Obama, “Now we’ve met, will you please keep in touch?” Too cute!
Yes, to we Americans, this is hardly a blip on the radar. But to the British, this is Big News. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s getting more coverage than the G-20 Protests! (Protests are a dime a dozen in London, but getting touchy-feely with Her Majesty? Not so much!)

This Guy is “Special”

16 March, 2009 at 2:56 pm (Funny Stuff, SuperGay, This Can't Be Good)

Okay, normally I would not post a video of such a nerdy guy…land this guy is PAINFULLY nerdy. It’s too easy of a joke; it’s trainwreck-bad. You want to turn it off, but you just can’t… Anyway, I’m posting because this guy is going on about how homosexuality is wrong (note: Leviticus only talks about men, so I am guessing lesbians are a-okay?)…and then segues into a bit about how he’s going to stop online-dating, and just hit on women in person, with tips from a book he read that was written by a kid. Really.

If being heterosexual means that I could date hot men such as this…well, I’ll stick to the ladies, thanks 🙂
