Christmas Candy!

20 December, 2008 at 8:07 pm (Christmas!, Weekend Update)

I decided that this year I would make Christmas goodies to send to family in Oklahoma. Originally I was going to make shortbread with Robert at his and Kevin’s place; however, he had to go out of town at the last minute (more on that in a moment). So instead, I decided to make fudge and haystacks at my place. This should have been simple, and making the actual candy was easy. But there was a little problem…

I could not find marshmallow creme or chow mein noodles anywhere in New York City.

Eventually, obviously, I did get everything I needed – they don’t sell Kraft marshmallow creme here, they sell something called Fluff. And the chow mein noodles were found at the last place I looked – in the small grocery store in my neighborhood (go figure!). But in the end, it was all good…

Fudge. Obviously.

Fudge. Obviously.

And what did Robert have to do instead? He went to Jersey to help Kevin’s dad slaughter the deer he’d hunted.
Poor Bambi.

Poor Bambi.

Well, fluff must work because it was good and we thank you for it all. No chow mein noodles in NYC!!!!! If it was to be found, of course it would be in the neighbor grocery where you refuse to shop. Thanks for the candy.

Technically, I don’t mind shopping in the grocery store in my ‘hood – it just typically has no selection of anything. It was a strange twist that it was the one place that actually HAD something I needed.

Now I know who to call the next time a deer is dead in our yard in Stillwater. I wonder if one is struck by a car and killed during the night, if it would still be edible the next morning? If so, I need Robert’s number…

Ew. I hope that deer don’t die in your yard too often.

Yes, if you field dress it right after it dies….lol. That means you have to make a slit in the skin over the whole stomach and pull all of its guts out and hang it by it’s feet. hahaha
